If you think the Microsoft ads are a little 'off', take a look at Yahoo's new "start wearing purple" campaign.
The campaign is centered around the "start wearing purple" website, featuring a number of purple-tinted topics like:
- "pioneers of purple" : some video interviews with trend-setters accross the globe.
- "purple pranks" : a candid camera prank in an elevator
- "purple pedals" : a fleet of 20 purple bikes with solar powered cameras, GPS, and mobile Internet connectivity, automatically sending pictures to a Flickr account.
- "purple picks" : a daily series of links to things which the Yahoo team has deemed Purple-worthy
- "wear purple" : merchandise, mainly in ... (what do you think
?)
So why purple?
Good question: Although it doesn't show that much on the outside, purple still is Yahoo!'s official color.
And: it's supposed to be the color of "innovation and imagination"...
I find it kind of strange though that the Yahoo! homepage doesn't mention it at all. I would at least have expected it to be just a little bit purple...
Maybe I'm not quite with it yet, but one thing is certain: that damn theme song will be in my head for the rest of the day
