Forget the "Magic Wall" CNN played with during pre-election reporting. Last night, during the election show, Wolf Blitzer did a remarkable interview with reporter Jessica Yellin who was in Chicago and whose image was transmitted to the New York studio as a hologram.
It took 35 infra-red and mechanical high-definition cameras in a small green-screen environment, but the result is fantastic.
Update: According to Hans Jürgen Kreuzer, a professor of theoretical physics at Dalhousie University and an expert on holography, Wolf Blitzer was not talking to a hologram, but to an empty space. The image would have been added digitally. Apperantly, the correct term would be a 'tomogram', which is an image that is captured from all sides, reconstructed by computers and then displayed on screen. CNN officials could not be reached for comment.
