Nov. 5 : The end of the Google-Yahoo! deal
As we already mentioned in WassUp #3, Google and Yahoo! have been looking for a solution to their advertising deal legal issues for a long time. Brief recap: In June 2008, Yahoo! and Google announced an advertising
agreement that would provide Yahoo! with access to Google’s AdSense
advertising programs for the U.S. and Canada. This would have meant that, if you'd search the web using Yahoo!, you could possibly find
Google ads next to the results. This was however not to the likings of
many people in both the web and the advertising industry, who feared that
Google might be heading towards an online advertising monopoly, thus
being able to fully control advertising fees. Well, these people can now rest assure: the deal doesn't go through. Google threw in the towel because "Pressing ahead risked not only a protracted legal battle but also damage to relationships with valued partners", says
Chief legal counsel David Drummond. After the decision, Yahoo! tried to convince Microsoft to do a second bid on the company. But Microsoft politely declined.
Nov. 5 : Change.gov : the change goes on
After having mastered an impressive pre-election campaign, the Obama campaign team launched a new website the day after the election: change.gov. Although less interactive at first sight compared to the 'My Barack Obama' social network, the website offers day-by-day information right from the President-Elect's office and asks people to tell their stories and share their concerns and hopes. With this, Obama clearly has begun crowdsourcing the political agenda. Welcome to Government 2.0.
Nov. 7 : LinkedIn launches events feature
Often wondered which event you should attend? Well, your search is over! The social business network LinkedIn announced the launch of their brand new events feature. LinkedIn Events offers not just event search, but recommendations based
on the contents of your profile, sophisticated information about
attendees and updates about the events in your LinkedIn update feed. And of course you can easily add your own events. Check out the video:
