5,9 Million Belgians over the age of 12 are using the Internet. But who are they? And what are they looking for online? To get an answer to these questions, MEDIAH dug into the 2008 CIM PMPA (Plurimedia Products & Attitudes) database. The result is a 19-page long report defining 3 segments ('clusters') of Belgian surfers.

The first cluster are the mainstream surfers (66,5%). They are mostly Flemish, socially more privileged people who frequently use the Internet to find information. They heavily use email for communicating, download free music and software and make online reservations for their holidays and cultural events.

The second cluster are the savvy surfers (7,2%). This small group is a very young segment with almost 60% younger than 30. They chat, use social media, shop online and download free and paid stuff. The study shows quite a big gap between this cluster and the other two clusters in Internet acceptance.

The third cluster MEDIAH defined are the silver surfers (26,3%). This surprisingly large group is represented by mostly older people (30% is over 50). They basically only turn to the Internet when they have to.

P.S. Upon re-reading this post I suddenly noticed the high Jambers level of the introduction. My apologies for that Smile.
